What is Disability?

November 21, 2013One year ago, New York City and the surrounding area was devastated by Superstorm Sandy. All of us watched the effects it had on everyday people. I’m sure very few of us had the experience that Eileen Giglio had last year. Eileen lives in New York with the support of her family, her attendant and NYSARC Trust Services. Eileen’s attendant Margaret Amo has a spirit and passion for the individuals she works with. We see this care from attendants all over New York State, very often we are unable to show the good works done by New Yorkers for New Yorkers. We are with this video.
People like Margaret have an impact on the daily life of those she supports. Where would we be as a society without this kind of community support? Here is the story we are proud to share.
In the past two years, we’ve worked closely with NYSARC Trust Services. One of our very best experiences, has been shooting and editing the story. It is these stories that individuals need to understand in relationship to natural disasters. How we come together as a community to help the differently enabled during a time of crisis? It through community, perseverance and hard work that we are all able to survive and grow.
As we were putting this together, we needed storm footage. We went to our friends at NewsChannel 13 in Albany. We wish to publicly thank WNYT for their support with storm footage.
